2024 Golf Highlights: A Year of Milestones and Adventures
2024: A Year in Golf That Won’t Be Forgotten!
As we wave goodbye to 2024, golf enthusiasts are reveling in the excitement, memories, and learning experiences from the past year! It has been quite the journey, especially for those who love exploring different golf courses. Can you believe it? One passionate golfer hit the incredible milestone of crossing the 600-golf-course mark early last December and is now on the brink of 700!
Hitting the Greens
This particular golfer, who we’ll call the ‘Course Crusader,’ closed out the year with an impressive tally of 96 rounds. This includes a mix of 87 big-hole rounds plus a few shorter ones, and even one round cut short by rain! Remarkably, this is the highest number of rounds he has played since the pre-pandemic era and before embracing fatherhood. It’s safe to say that golf has not only returned to his life but is thriving!
In terms of exploring new sights, the Course Crusader was on fire this year, playing an astounding 79 different courses, out of which 54 were new! The best score? A jaw-dropping 55—albeit on a par-3 course. But alas, what’s golf without a mishap? The worst round was an 81 at Sandridge Golf Club, where the excitement of the competition got the better of him.
Playing Among the Pros
One of the perks of being a golf aficionado? Catching live action! The Course Crusader checked out parts of three Florida Swing events this spring, highlighted by the emotional victory of Peter Malnati at the Valspar. Can you imagine playing the Copperhead Course right after watching the pros? Talk about an unforgettable experience!
Memorable Moments on the Course
Our protagonist’s journey this year included visits to iconic golf spots like Pinehurst No. 3 and Sedge Valley, and even taking in a round at the newly renovated East Lake Golf Club days before the Tour Championship! The highs and lows of the golf landscape have shown that sometimes, playing less ostentation can lead to more unique experiences.
One of the standout courses was the much-hyped Lido, associated with Sand Valley. Reviews say it’s an immersive experience in high-end golf architecture that’s hard to beat! Keep an eye on it, as it might just make the top of the Course Crusader’s list one day.
Traveling Adventures
2024 saw not just rounds played but actual globe-trotting adventures! The Course Crusader ventured outside the U.S. to hit the legendary Royal County Down and Royal Portrush, with the latter edging out in their match-up! And after years of wanting to visit Nashville, he ticked off another bucket list item by playing at the Old Fort Golf Club while attending a friend’s wedding.
A notable mention should go to a daring round at Talking Stick Golf Club in scorching 110-degree weather, which left him charmed and astounded. The course artfully resembled Pinehurst No. 2—now that’s an achievement on flat ground!
Food and Drink Experiences
Playing golf was only part of the fun; mouthwatering experiences followed closely behind! The Course Crusader dined at standout restaurants like the intimate Sushi by Bou at PGA National Resort & Spa and indulged in delicious burgers at Kopp’s after a day on the greens. Who says golf can’t be paired with a little culinary delight?
After each round across the pond, a refreshing pint of Magner’s hard cider became a ritual, marking the perfect way to unwind after a challenging day on the course. Who needs Guinness when you can have your favorite cider instead?
Looking Ahead
With 2024 drawing to a close, it’s incredible to think about the experiences gained, friendships fostered, and lessons learned on the greens and beyond. The Course Crusader is already planning for 2025, aiming to reach that 700-course mark and hopefully qualify for the 2026 United States Mid-Amateur. Cheers to another year filled with golf adventures!
