The Anticipation Builds for the Seventh Annual Valor Golf Fundraiser!
Prepare your putters and polish those drivers because the Raymond James Veterans Inclusion Network, affectionately known as Valor, is all set to host its seventh annual golf fundraiser on November 1. This year, the beautiful Innisbrook Golf Resort’s Copperhead Course will play host to what promises to be a spectacular day on the greens aimed at supporting our nation’s heroes—veterans, first responders, and their families.
Supporting Our Heroes
The funds raised during this event will go a long way, with organizers expecting more than 200 participants from two important communities: the financial services industry and the military and first responder sectors. Since its inception, Valor has made a tremendous impact, having raised and shared over $1.12 million with veteran-focused organizations scattered across the United States.
This year’s event will shine a spotlight on 23 nonprofit groups that provide crucial services. These include not just financial support, but essential offerings like mental health services, rehabilitation efforts, mobility assistance, affordable housing, home maintenance, and career transition help. Each organization plays a vital role in the lives of those who have bravely served our country.
A Keynote to Remember
One of the highlights of the evening will be the keynote address delivered by the remarkable Retired U.S. Army Colonel Gregory D. Gadson. A graduate of West Point, Colonel Gadson is not just a decorated combat veteran; he is an inspiration. After losing both legs and partial use of his right arm following a 2007 IED attack in Iraq, his resilience shines as a beacon of hope. He has not only inspired the New York Giants during their unforgettable Super Bowl run in 2007 but has also graced the silver screen in the film “Battleship”.
Adding to his impressive credentials, Gadson holds graduate degrees from both Georgetown University and Webster University and currently leads Patriot Strategies, further demonstrating his commitment to empowering others.
Exciting Sponsors and Entertainment!
The event is not only about golf; it’s also a fantastic networking opportunity supported by notable sponsors. One such sponsor is Horse Soldier, making its return this year as both a sponsor and beverage partner. This partnership adds a unique flavor to the festivities and illustrates the strong ties between business and community support.
Moreover, attendees will be treated to an inspiring musical performance by The Resilient, a band composed of severely wounded U.S. combat veterans. Their music not only entertains but serves as a testament to the strength and courage of those who have faced and overcome tremendous challenges.

News Summary
The 2026 Genesis Invitational saw a significant weather disruption with a three-hour rain delay, causing challenges for top golfers. Aaron Rai leads the tournament despite challenging conditions. Scottie Scheffler struggles, while Rory McIlroy shows promise. The historic tournament holds a $20 million purse, adding to the competitive atmosphere.
Weather Plays Spoiler at 2026 Genesis Invitational
The 2026 Genesis Invitational kicked off this weekend but not without its share of drama. Wrapping up the West Coast Swing, this tournament is the sixth on the PGA Tour’s calendar and is generating plenty of buzz. As golfers attempted to carve out their place in the competition, a heavy downpour brought play to a standstill on Thursday, with water pooling on the greens.
Rain Delays Shake Things Up
The storm clouds rolled in, leading to a frustrating three-hour delay that left players and fans alike tapping their toes in anticipation. After a wait, play resumed just after 4 p.m. ET, but just a few hours later, darkness descended again, halting the game at 8:41 p.m. ET. Now, a total of 30 players will have to complete their first rounds on Friday morning, adding to the suspense of this gripping tournament.
Aaron Rai Takes the Lead
Leading the tournament at the close of play was Aaron Rai. He’s brought his A-game, scoring an impressive 6 under with two holes still to finish, thanks to a birdie at the tricky par-3 16th. Rai is chasing his second victory on the PGA Tour, having previously celebrated his first at the 2024 Wyndham Championship. A victory this weekend would surely add to his momentum on Tour.
Struggles at the Top
Meanwhile, high-profile golfer Scottie Scheffler found himself battling the course early on, posting a 4-over 39 on the front nine, which left him tied for 69th among 72 players, a daunting nine shots off the lead. In fact, he was just one shot ahead of Keegan Bradley, who currently sits in last place at 5 over. It’s a tough break for Scheffler, and fans will surely be watching to see how he turns things around.
Impressive First Round Scores
On the flip side, both Rory McIlroy and Jacob Bridgeman stood out with solid performances, each finishing the round with 5-under 66. Bridgeman got to this score by making an eagle at the first hole and following up with four birdies on the back nine. He is still on the hunt for his first title on the PGA Tour—a win at this prestigious event could be just the ticket. McIlroy is showing signs of recovery this season, having ended T-14 at Pebble Beach last week, which has golf fans optimistic about his prospects.
Other Notable Performances
In other news from the tournament, Adam Scott made a notable birdie on the par-3 14th hole to sit at 2 under for the round. With the weather disruptions, players are finding every opportunity to capitalize on their rounds before facing tougher conditions.
History and Prominent Players in the Field
The Genesis Invitational has a rich history, being held at the Riviera Country Club for over 60 years, with the exception of last year when it was relocated due to wildfires in the area. It has undergone several name changes and venue shifts since it first teed off in 1926. This year, the tournament boasts a total purse of $20 million, with the winner taking home a staggering $4 million.
All of the top 10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking are competing in this tournament, except for Justin Thomas, who is on the mend after surgery. The cut at the Genesis will be determined by the top 50 players and ties, plus any golfer within ten shots of the lead, ensuring that there remains a fierce competition with plenty of heart-pounding moments ahead.

The Fourth Hole at Riviera Country Club Undergoes Major Upgrade
News Summary
Riviera Country Club extends its fourth hole to 273 yards, making it one of the longest par 3s on the PGA Tour. The decision has sparked mixed reactions from players, raising debates about the future of challenging golf holes. Pros like Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy have expressed concerns over the need for such lengthening, contrasting it with other nearby shorter par 3s. This change aims to elevate competition at the Genesis Invitational, despite potential criticisms regarding long par-3 holes.
The Fourth Hole at Riviera Country Club Gets a Major Upgrade
Golf enthusiasts, buckle up for some thrilling news! The iconic Riviera Country Club has opted for a bold move by stretching one of its most challenging holes. The fourth hole has just been lengthened to a staggering 273 yards, placing it among the elite ranks of the longest par 3s on the PGA Tour. This decision is stirring up quite the conversation in the golfing world!
A Tough Challenge Becomes Even Tougher
During the most recent Genesis Invitational, hosted at this storied venue, players dealt with a 233-yard version of the fourth hole. Even with that shorter length, it clinched the title of the third hardest hole on the course! With a staggering only 15% of attempts landing on the green—out of 240 tries—golfers collectively racked up a score of 49-over par on this beast of a hole. Saving par at this stage was no easy feat!
Why the Lengthening?
Despite its existing reputation as one of the toughest holes, tournament officials decided to take it up a notch by attaching an extra 40 yards. This might have raised quite a few eyebrows, especially since the fourth hole was already proving its mettle against the golfers. However, with such challenges come potential excitement, and the hope is that lengthening the hole will elevate the competition level further.
Reactions From the Pros
Comparative Lengths
If you take a stroll around Riviera, you’ll find that other par 3 holes simply do not stretch as much. The sixth hole has a gentle reach of 199 yards, while the 14th hole measures 192 yards and the 16th hole is a moderate 166 yards. This stark contrast to the newly fortified fourth hole raises eyebrows and sparks debates on what makes a par 3 genuinely enjoyable.
Historical Context and Criticism of Long Par-3s
Reactions from Stars Like McIlroy
Even Rory McIlroy found himself at odds with the new setting for the fourth hole, calling this adjustment a “horrible change.” As someone who thrives on the nuances of the game, McIlroy’s feedback underscores the divisive nature of lengthening holes within the professional golfing community.
A Bright Future for the Genesis Invitational
Let us not forget that the Genesis Invitational is one of eight signature events on the PGA Tour, boasting a dazzling $20 million total purse with a juicy winner’s share of $4 million. The tournament has taken place at Riviera Country Club since 1999, with only 2025 marking a break in its glorious history, totaling 60 tournaments overall. This course is best known for exhibiting a tricky layout, where winning scores have fluctuated from low single digits to mid-to-high teens since 1973.

New Lawsuit Challenges Trump Administration’s Golf Course Plans
News Summary
A lawsuit has been filed against the Trump administration’s proposed overhaul of the historic East Potomac Park Golf Course. Advocacy groups and local residents argue that the transformation into an exclusive facility for professional tournaments threatens public access and the environment. Opened in 1919, the golf course has a rich history of serving the community. The legal challenge highlights concerns over the proposed changes and potential environmental hazards amid growing tensions between preservation and privatization.
New Lawsuit Challenges Trump Administration’s Golf Course Ambitions
The proposed overhaul of a historic golf course in East Potomac Park has stirred up quite a storm, bringing together advocacy groups, local residents, and preservationists in a legal effort to halt the ambitious project. The details surrounding this case highlight a struggle between modernization, public access, and the preservation of cherished public spaces.
The Historic Background
Opened in 1919, the East Potomac Park Golf Course was designed by the celebrated golf architect Walter J. Travis. Nestled in a beautifully landscaped area, this iconic park was designated as a public recreation site back in 1897 by an act of Congress. This history emphasizes the fundamental role that the park has played in the community for over a century.
Proposed Changes and Legal Response
Fast forward to today, the Trump administration has set its sights on transforming this beloved golf course into a lavish facility aimed at hosting professional tournaments and exclusive events for wealthy golfers. Many locals, particularly those who frequent the course, are expressing their alarm over the proposed changes, which they argue would strip the park of its accessible nature.
Leading the charge against this initiative is the DC Preservation League, along with dedicated residents like Dave Roberts and Alex Dickson—both of whom are regulars at the East Potomac course. They have filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, seeking to stop the project altogether. Their legal argument is multifaceted, alleging that the project violates several significant laws, including the National Environmental Policy Act and the National Historic Preservation Act.
Environmental Concerns Uncovered
A key point in the lawsuit revolves around what the plaintiffs describe as environmental hazards stemming from illegal dumping activities. They claim that over 30,000 cubic yards of construction debris—including wires, pipes, and bricks—have been carelessly dumped onto the park. This alleged pollution not only compromises the environment but also poses a threat to the park’s overall integrity.
Status of the Legal Battle
Decision-makers and Future Implications
Challenges Ahead
With the clock ticking, the lawsuit underscores a growing tension between enriching a few versus preserving heritage and public access. As this legal battle unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the course will maintain its historic charm or be transformed into yet another exclusive venue out of reach for the average golfer.
