Born in Memphis, TN, Corky’s roots ran deep. However, he was raised in the scenic landscapes of Oregon. It was here that he found his passion for pharmacy, earning his degree from Oregon State University. While studying, he expertly balanced academics and sports, serving as the manager for the 1963 Western Regional NCAA Champions. This experience not only showcased his leadership skills but also laid a solid foundation for a professional career that would follow.
Beginning a Career and Finding Love
Upon graduating, Corky took a leap of faith and moved to San Francisco. He began working at Kaiser Permanente, where fate intervened and he met his future wife, a nurse whose heart he won over with charming promises of adventures across the globe. Their love story began in those bustling city streets and blossomed into a beautiful union that lasted over five decades.
Military Service and Further Education
Corky’s dedication to service didn’t stop at the pharmacy counter. As a proud Captain in the U.S. Air Force, Corky had the incredible opportunity to be stationed in various locations, including North Carolina, Japan, and Hawaii. His military service shaped him in many ways and fostered a lifelong commitment to his country and his community. After waving goodbye to his military days, Corky continued elevating his career academically by achieving an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University.
A Long and Fulfilling Career
Corky’s career in pharmacy flourished as he primarily worked for Longs Drugs. His dedication and passion for his work saw him through a long-standing and fulfilling career, ultimately leading him to retire in 2013. After years of hard work, Corky enjoyed spending his time doing the things he cherished most.
Passions Beyond Pharmacy
Outside of work, Corky was a man of many interests. He had an adventurous spirit that led him to explore new places and indulge in good food and wine. An avid golfer, Corky was often found out on the green, enjoying friendly games and exchanging jokes with his friends. His playful nature and delightful sense of humor were a source of joy for everyone around him.
A Loving Family Legacy
Corky was not just a remarkable pharmacist but also a dedicated family man. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Mary, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years. Their daughter, Leslie, along with three nieces and one nephew, carry on his legacy. Sadly, he was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Marian, as well as his dear sister, Ann. The family looks back fondly on their shared memories and recognizes that Corky will be dearly missed.
