The ministry focuses on enhancing living conditions in the Jamaican community of Harmons, which faces significant challenges such as lack of running water, high electricity costs, and limited opportunities for its residents. Thanks to a generous donor, WBOTJ has recently appointed a full-time reading specialist in Harmons to address the severe lack of educational resources in the area. This specialist is focused on offering free tutoring services to students who are struggling, ensuring that they achieve academic success. Currently, there are a remarkable 12 individuals from Harmons attending college, showcasing how WBOTJ’s support is opening doors to higher education.
Exciting developments are also in the works, as a group of 35-40 volunteers from the area is scheduled to travel to Jamaica in February 2026. In 2024 alone, WBOTJ hosted 23 volunteer groups from across the country, building homes, assisting schools, and providing elder care to those in need.
Expanding Healthcare and Education
In addition to educational initiatives, WBOTJ is planning to establish a new healthcare clinic in Harmons. They have already launched an adult education program, successfully aiding participants in learning essential skills like reading and filling out vital government forms. Building meaningful relationships with the young men in the Harmons community is another area of focus, providing them with opportunities for personal development.
