Revival of Beacon Hill Golf Course Underway After 16-Year Closure
Exciting news is bubbling up for golf enthusiasts as the shutters are being raised on the once-beloved Beacon Hill Golf Course, located just west of Leesburg, Virginia. After lying dormant for a whopping 16 years, work is now in full swing to bring this stunning 27-hole course back to life. Originally designed by World Golf Hall of Fame member Johnny Miller, this course first opened its doors in 2006 but faced challenges that led to its closure.
The golf course was not just a stretch of grass; it was the heart of a community built on a historic 326-acre farm that belonged to broadcasting pioneer Arthur Godfrey. As the course flickers back to life, it will feature a newly designed 18-hole layout that promises breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, not to mention some challenging elevation changes that will get golfers’ hearts racing.
What’s New and Exciting?
Golf fans, mark your calendars! The revamp of this cherished course includes around seven miles of cart paths and will incorporate various water features, enhancing the overall golfing experience. But that’s not all! Also in the works are a par-3 short course, a modern practice facility, and a welcoming clubhouse to make members feel right at home.
Steering this ambitious project is Resort Development Partners, who are teaming up with renowned architects Tom Clark and Jim Cervone, along with the experienced golf course builder McDonald & Sons, Inc. Under the watchful eye of managing partner Frank Denniston, the restoration has kicked off with significant groundwork, including the removal of numerous trees that had encroached on the sandy stretches of the course.

A Bit of History
Before its closure, the course, previously known as the Golf Club of Virginia, faced financial struggles. The homeowners association took a leap of faith in 2014 when they acquired the neglected property, determined to revive it. Over the years, various renovation attempts were made, but they finally found the right team to breathe life back into this once-picturesque course.
