Exciting news is swirling around the golfing community as Prince’s Golf Club in Kent has made it to the finals for the prestigious title of England’s Golf Course of the Year at the upcoming 2025 Golf Course Awards. This accolade is not just a flash in the pan; it showcases the club’s long-standing dedication to excellence and its relentless push for improvement across the board.

A Historic Venue with a Bright Future

Nestled at the scenic Sandwich Bay, this historic gem has a storied past, having previously hosted the Open Championship way back in 1932. But the accolades don’t stop there! The Royal and Ancient Golf Club (R&A) has revealed that Prince’s will be the proud host of the 2030 Walker Cup, a significant event in the amateur golf calendar. This upcoming tournament is further proof of the club’s capacity to hold elite-level golfing events, as demonstrated by its hosting of multiple R&A tournaments over the past dozen years.

Transformation and Development

The past few years have been nothing short of transformational for Prince’s Golf Club. Since rolling out a comprehensive redevelopment program in 2017 in collaboration with noted golf course architect Martin Ebert, the club has significantly enhanced its 27-hole championship layout. With improved strategy, aesthetics, and playability across the three stunning loops— the Shore, Dunes, and Himalayas—golfers are in for a real treat.

Add to that, a major refurbishment of the clubhouse has been completed, and the club has invested in upgraded hospitality and practice facilities that are set to be unveiled this winter. This is all part of creating a top-notch visitor experience, a key criterion for the Golf Course of the Year award.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Going beyond aesthetics and playability, Prince’s Golf Club has taken significant strides in sustainability. It was one of the first UK clubs to earn GEO accreditation, demonstrating its commitment to environmentally sound practices. The club has also implemented accessibility upgrades, including a new lift in the clubhouse, making it more welcoming for all visitors.

The Future Looks Bright

The interest in membership at Prince’s Golf Club is booming, as evidenced by a waiting list that reflects strong demand. Interestingly, about 70% of the club’s members reside within 45 miles of the course, underscoring its local appeal. This growing community adds to the vibrant atmosphere and camaraderie that are hallmarks of the club.

As the 2025 Golf Course Awards ceremony approaches, excitement builds to see which club will ultimately take home the coveted title. Fans eagerly anticipate whether Rahm can further solidify his legacy in the game.

Jon Rahm Aims for Glory at Spanish Open

As excitement builds for the ongoing Spanish Open, a familiar face is once again stealing the spotlight. Jon Rahm, a two-time major champion, is back and on a mission to secure his record fourth title at this prestigious tournament. Nevertheless, Rahm rose to the occasion, finishing with a solid 3-2-0 record that significantly contributed to Europe’s victorious effort against the U.S.

Those vibrant “Olé, Olé, Olé” chants from the adoring crowd are still fresh in his mind, echoing the jubilant mood of the European team after successfully retaining the Ryder Cup. It seems that these exhilarating experiences are a driving force as he turns his attention back to the golf course.

This is an enticing proposition for Rahm, who is not only keen on adding another trophy to his collection but also on further securing his place in golf history. With every swing, he continues to inch closer to surpassing his idol, the legendary Seve Ballesteros.

Future Fun and Challenges Ahead

Looking further along the timeline, the 2031 Ryder Cup holds immense emotional significance for Rahm, as it will take place in his home country. The thought of competing on such a grand stage in front of his fellow countrymen only fuels his passion and determination to excel in the game.

Cabot Highlands to Launch Old Petty Course in 2026

News Summary

Golfers are looking forward to the opening of the Old Petty Course at Cabot Highlands, designed by Tom Doak and Clyde Johnson. Set to open in Spring 2026, with preview play starting in August 2025, this unique links-style course features historical farmland and a focus on strategic play, making it a potential contender in Scotland’s top golf rankings. With a beautiful backdrop and an exciting golfing challenge, the course will offer an enriching experience for enthusiasts.

Cabot Highlands Set to Unveil the Old Petty Course in 2026

Excitement is buzzing in the world of golf as Cabot Highlands gears up for the much-anticipated opening of the Old Petty Course, designed by well-known course architect Tom Doak and his associate, Clyde Johnson. This links-style course is set to officially open its doors in spring 2026, but golf enthusiasts will get a sneak peek starting in August 2025. The full launch promises to deliver a fresh golfing experience that could soon make it a contender in Scotland’s top golf rankings.

A Unique Design for a Unique Experience

Cabot Highlands’ owner, Ben Cowan-Dewar, drew inspiration for this brand-new course during a visit to the Castle Stuart course in 2008, which has built a solid reputation after hosting the prestigious Scottish Open. However, the Old Petty Course is quite different from its neighboring Castle Stuart. Instead of dramatic cliffside views, players will find a layout that beautifully rolls over historical farmland, making the golfing experience all about strategy and shot-making.

Visual Feast Meets Golfing Challenge

The Old Petty Course boasts a stunning backdrop, with the iconic 400-year-old Castle Stuart visible from many holes. But don’t let the picturesque views fool you—the course is designed to keep golfers on their toes. Unlike Castle Stuart, which leans heavily into coastal aesthetics, Old Petty focuses on the internal challenges alongside its innovative layout. Notably, the par-3 third hole rests in close proximity to Castle Stuart, offering players a unique architectural twist that will surely keep them intrigued.

Preview Play and Greens Fees

For those itching to experience this groundbreaking course before its full opening, preview play is set to run until September 30, 2025. To join in on this exclusive opportunity, golfers must already have a tee time booked at the Castle Stuart course. The greens fees during this preview period are priced at £190, which is a nice discount compared to Castle Stuart’s £330 fee, making this an attractive option for avid players.

A Central Hub for Golf Holidays

Thoughtful Design Elements

Tom Doak and Cowan-Dewar meticulously collaborated to ensure the course stayed true to the original vision laid out by the late Mark Parsinen. The design focuses on enhancing the golfing experience rather than merely showcasing beautiful scenery. Expect strategically placed undulating greens that demand skill and strategy from players of all levels.

A Look Ahead

With its unique features and thoughtful design elements, the Old Petty Course is gearing up to make waves in upcoming golf course rankings. Golfers and critics alike will be keeping a close eye on this innovative addition to Cabot Highlands, as it strives to secure its place among the best courses in Great Britain and Ireland.

As the opening draws closer, the anticipation continues to grow. Golfers everywhere are eager to experience what promises to be a remarkable blend of strategy, history, and natural beauty at the Old Petty Course. Will you be among the first to tee off?

The Hidden Gems of Cornwall: Discovering Premier Golf Courses

News Summary

Cornwall may not be the first place that comes to mind for golf, but its stunning courses at St Enodoc and Trevose offer breathtaking views and challenging play. St Enodoc is renowned for its iconic Church Course, while Trevose captivates with its renowned Championship course, both complemented by stunning coastal scenery. Experience the charm of these hidden gems alongside nearby attractions such as Padstow’s seafood scene.

The Hidden Gems of Cornwall: St Enodoc and Trevose Golf Courses

When you think of a golfing paradise, Cornwall might not be the first place that springs to mind. But this stunning region, known for its rugged coastline and outdoor activities, is home to some of the most breathtaking golf courses you’ll ever come across. Recently, I had the pleasure of hitting the greens at two premier destinations in Cornwall: St Enodoc Golf Club and Trevose Golf & Country Club. And let me tell you, they did not disappoint!

Diving into St Enodoc Golf Club

First up was St Enodoc Golf Club, which boasts not one but two impressive links courses: The Church and The Holywell. Out of the two, The Church is a legend in its own right, often hailed as one of the best links courses in the world. With its design credits going to the renowned architect James Braid, the course is perched on clifftops above Rock, offering picturesque views that are enhanced by its thrilling layout.

Spanning 6,557 yards, the 18-hole Church Course features a par 69 for men and a par 73 for women. The round begins with a friendly par 5, easing you into the game, but don’t let that fool you—things get challenging quickly. The course is filled with dramatic holes, including the memorable downhill dogleg 3rd hole and the famous 6th hole, fondly known as the Himalayas. As you progress, the excitement escalates, particularly on the 10th hole, recognized as the signature hole and boasting the highest stroke index. It’s a real test of skill!

The back nine of The Church is particularly tough. The par 3 15th hole is a nail-biter, and you’ll need to summon your best game for the strong finish of a challenging par 3 and a tricky par 4. For those unfamiliar with the course’s demanding landscapes, I highly recommend hiring a caddy to guide you through the twists and elevation changes. It makes the experience infinitely more enjoyable!

As for fees, greens fees at St Enodoc range from £75 in the summer to £45 in winter, while playing the Holywell course is a steal at £25. A great value for a memorable day out!

Discovering the Charm of Trevose Golf & Country Club

Next on the agenda was Trevose Golf & Country Club, located just across the estuary near Padstow. This beautiful venue is celebrating its centenary in 2025, and it’s easy to see why it’s a cherished destination for golfers. Its Championship course, designed by legendary architect Harry Colt, is not only challenging but also rewards players with stunning sea views that make every swing special.

The recent renovations by the design firm Mackenzie & Ebert have further enhanced the layout and playability of the course, ensuring that it continues to provide a true championship experience. Additionally, Trevose offers its own taster course, The Headland, making it accessible for golfers of all skill levels.

Nearby Attractions: A Golfing Haven

One of the greatest perks of visiting these golf courses is the proximity to nearby attractions. The bustling fishing port of Padstow is just a stone’s throw away, famous for its delightful seafood and bustling restaurant scene, particularly Rick Stein’s establishments. Combine a round of golf with a culinary adventure—what’s not to love?

The North Cornwall coast is more than just a scenic backdrop; it’s a destination teeming with charm and activity. Whether you’re an avid golfer or simply looking for a breathtaking view, the courses at St Enodoc and Trevose coupled with their surrounding attractions make it a must-visit spot.
